Flooding in Thailand halts HDD production
Recent flooding in Thailand has brought the computer industry to its knees. Over 60% of all the worlds Hard Disk Drives are produced in Thailand, and with factorys underwater production has all but come to a halt.
Current projections show normal exports should resume late in Q1 2012. During this time we can only expect cost's of drives to rocket as they become more and more scarce. In the two months since the flooding started, we have seen between 1-200% increase in costs as well as volume limitations on quantitys available.
To show the extent of the damage, we have some images from the Western Digital plant. (Western Digital are one of the worlds leading Hard Drive producers, and make drives on behalf of many other huge brand names!)

Blackberry's Out Of The Race?
Research In Motion's boss has dismissed suggestions that its Blackberry devices are no longer a major player in the smartphone race.
It follows comments by Nokia's Stephen Elop, who said that the smartphone ecosystem was now a three horse race between Windows, Android and Apple.
Last Block of Internet Addresses Handed Out
The original pool of internet addresses has officially run dry.
The last five blocks of the IP Version 4 addresses have been handed over to the regional bodies
thatdistribute them.
Those five blocks, called /8s and which contain 16 million addresses each, are expected to be completely depleted by September 2011.
India's Blackberry Threat
Indian Blackberry users could face a ban after the gadget's maker failed to meet a government deadline to grant access to all its services.
Officials in Delhi say they need to read encrypted Blackberry messages to help guard against terrorist attacks.
They have been locked in negotiations with Research In Motion, which makes the popular device, since last summer.
However as a January 31 deadline passed, RIM said it would not lift encryption for its business clients.
